Location & Nearby Attractions

Kirkley, Lowestoft and surrounding areas offer many interesting places to see and visit. With miles of unspoilt beaches, and picturesque Edwardian and Victorian buildings as well as a long anglo saxon history, it is the perfect backdrop to a civilisation rich in history.

Lowestoft Town

Sitting proudly in the northernmost part of The Suffolk Coast is Lowestoft. Famous for being the most easterly town and the first place to see the sunrise in the UK, it's also the birthplace of composer Benjamin Britten.

The town is a favourite with families, and there's plenty to see and do; with two piers, a wildlife park, an award-winning theme park, museums and a busy theatre which is home to the Royal Philhamonic Orchestra.

Pakefield Village

Sitting atop the cliffs of some Suffolk’s most dramatic coastline, Pakefield is a thriving village, close enough to Lowestoft for access to many Suffolk attractions, and yet self-contained enough for a great weekend hideaway.

This is not to say its history only goes back to the 1800’s, quite the opposite in fact. Pakefield is the site of an archaeological dig revealing evidence of dwellings from over 700,000 years ago. It represents the earliest unequivocal evidence of human activity in northern Europe. Pre-historic tourism?! Perhaps.

The Tourist Trail

Southwold

Whether it’s relaxation or exhilaration you’re after from your break away, this picturesque seaside town is the perfect year-round destination. Food and drink are an integral part of the Southwold experience.

Southwold is home to the Adnams Brewery, winner of The Good Pub Guide 2011’s ‘Brewery of the Year’.

Another focal point of the town’s landscape, Southwold Pier was refurbished in 2005, the pretty pier offers a range of shops, eating places and amusements, from traditional two penny pushers to Tim Hunkin’s eccentric inventions. Don’t miss out on the famous Water Clock which causes a snigger every 30 minutes!

Sailing on the Suffolk Broads

There’s no better way to spend the day then cruising along the Suffolk Broads and Suffolk Waterways. Book your Day Boat for a full day, a half day or by the hour and have hours of fun with all of your family and friends, or relax with a select few meandering along the water.

The Broads National Park is a unique landscape of man-made broads (i.e. shallow lakes) connected by freshwater rivers and waterways which is fed by the North Sea via the Suffolk Coast and English Channel. There are many boatyards up and down the Suffolk Waterways offering many types of Day Boats to Hire, from motor boats to electric boats to sailing dinghies to row boats, you are sure to find a water-going vessel to suit your taste and budget!

Oulton Broad

Located just a mile west of Lowestoft, Oulton Broad offers year-round water sports, cute cafes, riverside eateries, fishing spots and an edwardian park - the ideal place to spend a day on The Suffolk Coast.

The Edwardian Park situated on the edge of the broads is home to a play area, petting zoo, tennis courts, bowling green and Victorian bandstand, where on Sundays during the summer you can enjoy afternoons of brass band concerts.

Children will love the boating lake, trampolines and crazy golf, whilst adults can enjoy a cappuccino and slice of cake in the park cafe.

Norwich

Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic, one complementing the other. Like any great city its centre is easy to walk around and has a river at its heart.

As well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb independent as well as High Street shopping, lively restaurants, bars and nightlife and a heritage that is a delight to explore. It was also England's first UNESCO City of Literature – this is a city of stories!

A wonderful place to stay, I usually stay at the top (Moray Horizon view) as they have 4 apartments, but the other apartments are wonderful too having stayed at them too. Beach is opposite and the windows from the bedroom have a sea view! amazing :) so does the lounge and kitchen. The twin - two singles at the back of the apartment is nice and quiet too and you have everything you need in the kitchen. Lots of shops locally, coop 30 secs from the door in Kirkley and I loved the long walks to Kessingland on the beach. Highly recommend.

Stayed in the ground floor apartment (garden view) for the entirety of December as partner wad performing in the Lowestoft panto. Oliver was an exceptional host who was contactable 24/7 and responsive within minutes, no matter what the query was. The flat itself was perfect for our stay, with a very large living room, fully functional kitchen and well sized double bed. The shower was easy to use but be warned there is not really enough hot water to run a bath if you have used any other hot water during the day (the boiler runs on a tank system - after contacting Oliver he gave us the keys to the boiler cupboard so we could boost the tank and get enough hot water. The shower itself runs on a seperate heating sytem and never runs out). Parking was easy enough - probbaly half the time during our stay had to use the private parking round the back of the apartment amd half the time there was a spot out the front in the public parking. Location is excellent - a 30 second walk fron co-op, pubs, takeaways etc. A 15 minute walk to the station and into the town centre. Obviously didnt come for the beach and the sea during december but this would be prime location during the summer, right opposite the pier. Fully recommend and would stay again
